Smartphone Understands Hand Gestures
- Scientists at UIST in Honolulu, Hawaii have developed an app that allows users to control their smartphone through hand gestures without touching the phone.
- The app recognizes a six different kinds of hand gestures, from simple ones like moving the index finger left and right to mimicking firing a pistol to fire down enemies in a game.
- The app recognizes gestures from a stored memory, and can tell how far the hand is from the screen of the smartphone.
- Unlike other gesture recognizing apps, it does not require a large amount of processing and memory power.
- It may be suitable for smart watches and devices like google glass.
- The app is still in development and has not yet been released to the public.
